Your favorite memory of Dick's Drive-In might earn you a prize
If a burger joint can be part of local history, so can you.
In preparation for its 50-year anniversary, Dick's Drive-In Restaurants
wants to hear your memories of that Seattle institution. It opened its
first location in Wallingford in January 1954 and expanded to Holman
Road, Lake City, Broadway and Queen Anne.
And they're not just talking about the burgers, fries and shakes. They're
talking about life — the good times or tough times, the relationship
made or broken, the fads, the finds, the funds (or lack of same) you
associate with visits to Dick's over the decades.
"Every memory that's fit to print will be printed" in a book
due out in October, said Jim Spady, whose father, Dick Spady, 79, was
one of the restaurant's three founders and the only one still with the
company.
At stake are $100 gift certificates and souvenir shirts, with winners
selected in six categories: oldest memory, funniest memory, favorite
Husky memory, romantic memory, employee memory and best photo. Entries
must be received by August 15. Find out more at www.ddir.com, or by picking
up a bag (purchase not necessary) at any of the chain's five locations.
