Dear Editor:

Thank you, Seattle!  This week Dick’s Drive-In Restaurants turns 55 as Seattle’s oldest, continuously operating fast-food restaurant.  Without a doubt, after 55 years of serving Seattleites burgers, shakes, and fries there is nothing I hold closer to my heart than the people who’ve made this amazing journey possible.

First, to the Dick’s Devotees -- our loyal, and sometimes fanatical, customers who have graced our restaurants time and again, and taught us the true meaning of a satisfied customer.  Since 1954, we have strived to do our very best to serve you high quality food, at low prices, with fast service.  It is not a complicated business model, but your support means that we’ve done something right and that business integrity does have its rewards.

Second, to our employees who are the heart and soul of what makes Dick’s great.  It has been a joy to see multi-generations of Dick’s employees learn and love the restaurant business and to value the business as an extension of the community, not just a place to make a quick buck.  My family and I have learned so much from you about what it means to create a successful business that truly values people.

When I hear someone say, “Dick’s Drive-Ins is like a member of the family,” it says to me that our sense of community is healthy and strong.  We now have three generations of Spadys who have come of age within the family business, and I could not have picked a better or more vibrant community to build a family heritage.  To the greater Seattle community, thank you for being a part of our family.  You have showered us with praise and awards and it is our hope that we have, in good measure, returned the goodwill you have extended to us.
