Wallingford
Wallingford History
Opened in 1954, Wallingford Dick’s Drive-In is where it all began—the original flagship restaurant that set the standard for every future Dick’s Drive-In location. Nestled between Lincoln and Roosevelt High Schools—and just minutes from the University of Washington—it quickly became a late-night hangout for hungry students and teens. Although updated with an additional grill and fryer and new restrooms, Wallingford still looks much as it did in 1954, complete with the iconic steer portrait that has become synonymous with Dick’s Drive-In.
When the first store opened in 1954, hamburgers cost just 19¢, milkshakes 21¢, and french fries—ordered at their very own window—only 11¢. Food that was (and still is!) as affordable as it is delicious.
